governance
Redeemer seeks to organize itself in as transparent a way as possible. We follow the "Model Constitution for Congregations of the ELCA." We have a 12 member Church Council made up of church members who are elected to 3-year terms (max six years in a row). The executive roles of council include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Ministry chairs include Evangelism, Social Ministry, Property and Grounds, Christian Education, Youth Ministry, Fellowship, Stewardship, and Worship and Music. The annual budget and activities of the church are reviewed and approved annually at our Congregational Meeting. Members in good standing may attend any church council meeting, and may vote in the annual meeting.
Most simply put, a “member” of the Christian Church at Redeemer is a person who gathers regularly with the worshiping community, “confesses” the faith of the church in the historic creeds (Apostles and Nicene) and participates in Holy Communion. For the technical purposes of participating in Redeemer’s church governance, however, membership is having attended Holy Communion and contributed to the ministry of the church at least once in a calendar year.
Redeemer Church Council Meetings - 2nd Tuesday of every month, 7:30 PM
PLEASE NOTE, Redeemer members are always permitted to attend Council meetings. However, for the sake of efficiency, the Council asks that those wishing to attend, either to observe or to speak to an issue, contact the Council President, Carol Dunbar ([email protected]) to alert council to your intention, to be put on the agenda if necessary.
