WHO ARE WE?

Redeemer is a community of Christians who desire to be faithful and grace-filled disciples of Jesus Christ. We seek to fulfill the promises we make in our baptism,
  • to live among God's faithful people,
  • to hear the Word of God and share in the Lord's Supper,
  • to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed,
  • to serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
  • and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth.
Redeemer is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the largest denomination of Lutherans in the US. Click this link for more information about the ELCA. MISSION/VISION

Mission Statement:
Redeemer is dedicated to nurturing the awareness of God’s presence in our world, and to sharing our blessings with others.

We believe that God’s grace is given to all people in manifold ways all the time, but especially in the love and mercy of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  The world around us needs to know about Jesus’ gracious and healing presence, and we try to embody that presence by sharing with others.

We nurture the awareness of Jesus' presence and share our blessings through weekly worship, education experiences, fellowship activities and socially minded charitable activities. We are committed to the Gospel message of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We are linked to and support financially the ministries of pan-Lutheran agencies, such as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Lutheran World Relief, the Lutheran World Federation, the ELCA’s World Hunger appeal, and the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

Redeemer's Vision Statement (2015):
As Christians, called to serve our Lord in our unique time and place, we believe our church community must continually move beyond our church walls. We seek to honor our past as an involved community church by challenging ourselves to more vibrantly share our faith, and its blessings, with those around us. As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2017, we strive to reach a new level of Christian fellowship and spiritual engagement, based upon our faith-committed congregation, inspiring pastoral leadership and worship experience, a strong multi-generational church family and a tradition of outreach to others.

Through the use of our resources of time and talent, we will serve our members and our community by:

Outreach
  • Intensifying existing and exploring new partnerships with outside organizations that address the basic human needs of food, shelter, economic assistance, etc.
  • Working with the New Jersey Synod and the ELCA to identify areas of global and local engagement.
  • Improving our communication ministry (print and social media, etc.) to better inform our members, and educate our community about who we are and what we do.

Serving and Sharing
  • Expanding our Care Ministry focused on congregation members who need specific assistance and support (such as shopping, driving, visitation, yard care, etc.).
  • Creating and empowering the creation of new programs that encourage more diverse participation in the service culture and leadership of the congregation.

Worship and Christian Education
  • Diversifying our worship experiences to engage a greater cross-section of our congregation.
  • Strengthening our youth program through education, leadership formation, music and service opportunities, and encouraging them to become engaged with others through community service.

Fellowship
  • Working with diverse groups within the congregation to develop new fellowship opportunities that offer broader appeal and improve the relationship between members of all generations with the congregation.

As Jesus said in the Gospel of Mark (10:45), "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..." With God's help through the power of the Holy Spirit, humble dedication to achieving our unified vision will result in the growth of our relationship with Christ, because of a renewed emphasis on building up and supporting one another in a strong family of faith and reaching out to serve, educate, and nurture God's people.

Kim Desmond - Office Manager
Although Kim grew up in locally, her travels took her far and wide before moving back to the area with her family in 2020.  Kim shares her time and home with her husband, their high school-aged daughter and middle school-aged son, and their large shepherd/lab mix aptly named Wiley.  She loves to travel and she and her family did extensive travel in Europe while living in Frankfurt, Germany for 4 years.
Before moving back to the area, Kim lived and worked in Bethesda, MD.  She worked as an office manager for an Episcopal church and continued to work remotely from NJ through much of the pandemic.  Kim earned her MBA in marketing from the University of Southern California.  Upon graduation, she moved to Boston to work as a financial analyst for Hood, a national dairy company.  Although Kim’s first career as an editor and director at CNBC and NBC Desktop seems a lifetime ago, she still enjoys the creative process of creating slideshows, online photo albums and videos.  She is excited to bring her business and multimedia skills to Redeemer.

Ann Marie Gesualdo - Faith Formation Director
Annie brings over 15 years of experience in faith formation and youth work for several previous Roman Catholic congregations in North Jersey. She believes strongly in faith formation as a wholistic experience covering the life of every Christian. Faith Formation begins in the home, where parents are the first example of God’s great work for children to see.  Parents' Christian example will springboard spiritual growth in their children and open their hearts to see Jesus’ example all around them.  As they continue a structured focus in Sunday School, Confirmation, and youth ministry, those thoughts and heart felt attitudes will blossom into a close, lifelong relationship with God. She is a proud single mother who loves spending as much time with her daughter as she can. Her hobbies include socializing with friends, yoga, gardening and reading books. She has lived in the Boonton area for many years.
